The 5 scripts you'll use this week
Someone just asked you for something. Before you say yes, ask two questions.
Five scripts, one a day, worded for your manager, a peer, a client and someone you lead. Plus a one-page checklist for AI-made work. 12 pages, US Letter and A4. Free.
Use script 1 on one request
Pick a request you have not started. Write these three lines on paper or in your own notes. Unknown is a fine answer: it tells you what to ask.
- What is it really for? The result someone will use, and when.
- Who decides, and did they say yes? One name, or Unknown.
- The fact only I hold: your free hours, a date, or what was already agreed.
Fill the two blanks in this message, then adapt it to the request:
Happy to help. Before I start: what is this really for, and who signs off on it? I have ___ free hours before ___.
Fictional example: Finance wants to know if one vendor can go. Margo in Finance decides; Margo has not been asked yet. You have six free hours before Thursday.
You have a next question to ask before you start. A reply still needs the decision owner's confirmation.
Keep all five scripts
The Quick Start includes the ready messages, versions for different people, short fictional examples, a Friday check and the AI-work checklist. Choose your paper size; both files have the same 12-page content.
No account or email required. You may share this free edition unchanged with your team; please keep the credits.
If you want another step
- Practice a short fictional case before a real conversation.
- Use the free one-page prep card to put your questions together.
- See the Before You Say Yes kit and other printables when you want more worked examples.
Every person and case is fictional. Conversation practice, not legal or HR advice. See our disclaimer.
