The Last Hire · fictional story. The office empties; a desk is cleared. Two questions make room for a shared decision.

The vendor's bot said Friday: a branching scenario

Your client's launch needs parts on Friday, and the vendor's chat agent says Friday delivery is fine. Choose what to say, ask for the missing half, and see where each path ends. Three ways in, six endings.

Fictional practice case: The vendor's bot said Friday. Priya is a fictional role, the client owner is only mentioned, and the vendor's chat agent is a fictional AI. Your choices stay on this page and are not saved or sent anywhere. After an ending where you asked something, “Try again with what you now know” keeps the answers you asked for in a list at the top, labeled as learned earlier, and starts a fresh run.

Numbers and quotes come from the free "The vendor's bot said Friday" case: the launch needs the parts on Friday, the chat agent says "Friday delivery is fine.", the order record still shows Monday (a three-day gap), and only Priya, the vendor's account manager, can change the order. Each ending can skip ahead to the Friday launch; that part uses only the case's arithmetic, its own listed plausible consequences and what was said on your path, and says what the case does not give. The chat agent here is one fictional AI, not a claim about any real AI product. A change to the order stays a proposal until Priya confirms it in the order record.

About this practice
Priya, a fictional colleague with a cartoon head, standing and facing forward.
  • Teaches: Ask the person who owns the order to change the record, and tell the client owner the date the record shows.
  • Does not claim: A fictional case, and the vendor's chat agent is a fictional AI. One run is not a verdict, and no outcome is measured.
  • For: Anyone who hears a date from a vendor's chat agent that the order record does not show.

Where to go next

  • Next case: It says it's done. The AI is yours this time, and it reports that the work is finished, so you practice asking what that report rests on.
  • Guide: How to ask for the real deadline. A short read on asking what is behind an urgent promise before you repeat it to anyone.
  • Tool: Stakeholder map. List who decides and who to ask, so the person who can really change the arrangement is on your page early.

Ask the questions yourself.
Play the same case as a solo game: ask Priya or the vendor's chat agent, reveal the missing facts and write your next-step card.
