ask two questions

The Last Hire · fictional story. The office empties; a desk is cleared. Two questions make room for a shared decision.

The brief the client's AI rewrote: a branching scenario

The client sends a tidied brief drafted with an AI assistant, and it adds a page that was not in your agreed five hours. Choose what to say, ask for the missing half, and see where each path ends. Three ways in, six endings.

Fictional practice case: The brief the client's AI rewrote. The client owner is a fictional role, and the client's writing assistant is a fictional AI. Your choices stay on this page and are not saved or sent anywhere. After an ending where you asked something, “Try again with what you now know” keeps the answers you asked for in a list at the top, labeled as learned earlier, and starts a fresh run.

Numbers and quotes come from the free "The brief the client's AI rewrote" case: the agreed plan uses 5h of 5h (data 2h, recommendations 2h, handoff 1h), the tidied brief adds a vendor comparison page of about 2h, and with it the plan is 7h against 5h. Only the client owner can confirm scope. Each ending can skip ahead to the end of the five hours, the only measure of time the case gives; that part uses only the case's arithmetic, its own listed plausible consequences and what was said on your path, and says what the case does not give. The writing assistant here is one fictional AI, not a claim about any real AI product. A change to the scope stays a proposal until the client owner confirms it.

About this practice
  • Teaches: Put the difference between the agreed hours and the new brief in front of the person who confirms scope.
  • Does not claim: A fictional case, and the client's writing assistant is a fictional AI. One run is not a verdict, and no outcome is measured.
  • For: Anyone sent a brief an AI assistant tidied that adds work to the agreed hours.
